Katong laksa
The dish that put the neighbourhood on the map — rice noodles cut short (traditionally eaten with a spoon alone) in a rich coconut-prawn broth. Several stalls claim to be the "original," and the rivalry is part of the fun.
Kueh & desserts
Bite-sized, brightly coloured cakes — often glutinous rice, coconut, and pandan-based — sold by the piece at local bakeries throughout the area.
Nyonya mains
Ayam buah keluak (chicken with a distinctive black Indonesian nut) and babi pongteh (braised pork in fermented soybean sauce) are the dishes worth planning a proper sit-down meal around.
